What we will not print

A short list of the claims we refuse to make until we can show the paperwork.

Jewellery listings are full of statements that sound like facts and are actually decoration. We have decided which ones we will not write until we can back them up, and this is that list.

Metal composition and plating

We describe what the photograph shows — the tone of the metal. We do not state karat, alloy, or plating thickness anywhere in this index, because we have not tested it ourselves.

Stone type and origin

We describe the cut, because the cut is visible. We do not name the stone material and we do not claim an origin.

Where it was made, and by whom

Not stated. “Designed in” lines are especially easy to write and especially hard to defend, so they are not here.

Certifications and audits

No certification marks, membership logos or audit claims appear on this site. If we ever hold one, we will publish the certificate rather than the logo.

Anything we cannot show you

The general rule: if a claim would need a document to defend and we do not have the document, the claim does not go on the page. Ask us and we will tell you plainly what we know and what we do not.

This costs us some copy. It seems a reasonable price.
