Fashion jewelry is a category full of marketing terms — “gold finish”, “yellow metal”, “hypoallergenic”. We'd rather be specific. Here's exactly what each of our metals and stones are, why we chose them, and how to care for them.
What it is: 2.5μ of solid 18K gold (75% pure) over a base of recycled sterling silver or recycled brass. To be called vermeil in the US, EU and most major markets, the gold layer must be at least 2.5μ — that's a legal minimum. A lot of “gold-plated” fashion jewelry is 0.5-1μ, which wears off in 6-12 months. Ours is ten-year material.
Why we like it: real 18K color (warm, not brassy), hypoallergenic, water-resistant, and at a fraction of the price of solid gold.
Care: water ok, chlorine and bleach not ok. Wipe with a soft cloth. Lifetime re-plating included.
What it is: 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper (the industry standard). Hallmarked on every piece.
Why we like it: cool-toned, sculptural, and ages beautifully. Silver does tarnish — that's normal chemistry, not a defect — and our anti-tarnish polishing cloth restores shine in seconds.
Care: store in the pouch we provide (slows tarnishing). Avoid sulfur-rich environments (thermal springs, rubber, eggs).
What they are: real pearls grown in freshwater mussels, hand-selected per pair for symmetry, luster, and surface cleanliness. We source AAA+ grade — the second-highest commercial grade.
Why we like them: each one is genuinely unique. No two Lune drops are identical.
Care: pearls are organic and porous — no chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or perfume. Wipe with a damp soft cloth after wear and store flat, separate from metal.
For colored and transparent accents (sapphires, opals, topaz) we use lab-grown when the optical quality matches or exceeds natural, which is most of the time. They're chemically identical to mined stones — the only difference is origin. No mines, no conflict, lower price.
